In the Navy Now

Something in the blue is calling me.
Hard hatted men coincide.
Reason within reason has observed me
and no hesitation can be heard in its reply.
I’m jumping in full willing with my boots on,
to change my destiny I conform.
Mimicking my neighbor left and right of me,
in high-head holding shoulder-backing form.
Swallowing my tongue with my virtue,
as gun waving armatures progress
to quick witted eagle eyed comrades
with gold and silver pins upon our chest.
So someday when I stand tall beside you,
you will feel the strength within my heart.
Instead of waiting for my life to find me,
I picked up my head and took charge.

Words

If I tell you that I love you
Will you believe the words,
Or call me for a fool
And say I’m just a silly girl?
Will your walls begin to crack
Or will you build them up tall,
Call in your reinforcements
Or let your heart begin to fall?
As I predict the outcome
With the words on my breath
I feel the blood gather
On the left side of my chest.
The seconds slow their ticking
As the pitter patter hastes.
My knees begin to weaken
While my heart makes her case.
Instantly your eyes
Dilate at the sight
As the words from my lips
Pierce the silence of this night.
Call me a liar
If you don’t believe my truths
For its been hours, days, years
Since I started loving you.

Our Wedding Day

My friend, my love,
The autumn leaves have fallen
And thus too have I
In love with you again.
Forget those who forget us,
Forgive those who forbid us,
For today the sun rises for us two.
From now until forever
Winter, spring and summer,
My heart will still remain yours
And as the sun is setting,
October air is chilling,
Your love will warm me to the core.
So take these hands and I thee wed.
May all who gather here
Bless this love declared today
And celebrate with cheer.

Long Drive

One last drag to fix my bones,
up through the nostrils of impatience to settle the brain’s panic.
Sedated anxieties put to pause in moonlit roads
while pavement pushes the urge to drive
faster and faster.
Past each posted exit sign—North
to the comforts of familiarity,
to the comfort of your arms.
Alarmed at the sight of my face,
since so long ago farewells were placed
and we were subjected to the years withdrawn
from our romantic enthralls.

This never-ending playlist rings through the speakers
preaching me to stop then singing me to speed.
The bass moves within the pit of my body,
mimicking the bumps in the road
as it collapses at the bridge
and booms with each chorus,
reviving my lazy eyes
to grasp the reflecting white lines ahead,
whom sit parallel against the flowered median
and its "Drive Safely" remembrances.

Another inhalation shakes me back to the present.
Your face escapes me as the memory fades.
I feel alone, abandon, better off.
I was the right distance away
to keep your mediocre attachment,
but as these spinning tires carry me closer
I become farther from your forethought.
There is no easy way
around the confrontation that awaits.
With each passing mile
reality turns its head in our direction
and karma will seek.
