New

You’re new

but not like a fresh shirt or socks.

You smell familiar

like walking into a bar on a chilly day
and sitting by the fire.

Your eyes lock mine

and I’m sucked in for staring too long.

When I drown you’ll save me.

Press through my lungs

and fill me with your breath

until I float like a balloon.

Over the chairs and tables,

above the trees and clouds.

You lead me home.
